Review Course Logistics
Class begins Monday, February 27, 2017. There are 8 sessions that run every Monday night, from February 27 through April 17, 2017.
Class is 6-10PM. Classroom doors open at 5:45PM. Please plan to arrive so you are comfortably seated and ready to learn by 6PM. Class will start promptly at 6PM. Each class is scheduled for 4 hours, although some may be slightly shorter. There is one scheduled break each evening.
Class is held at the Edison Welding Institute EWI), located at 1250 Arthur E Adams Drive, Columbus, OH 43221. The building has a sign on it that reads “EWI.” Signage on your way in to the parking lot says Edison Joining Technology Center (as they are co-located). There’s plenty of parking right in front of the building. Please park in visitor parking spaces or any unreserved space.
When you enter the building, you will be asked to sign in at the lobby desk. If you arrive before 5:45, you may have to wait in the lobby for the classroom to open.
The Edison Welding Institute is a smoke free campus. Smoking is only allowed in your vehicle.
Directions to EWI
Use Google Maps or your GPS to help you navigate to EWI. It’s less than 1 mile west of Route 315 (Exit at Lane Avenue, OSU Campus).
Food and Drinks
You might want to grab some dinner before class. You are welcome to eat in class, although please be mindful of strong smelling flavors that might disrupt the class.
There are no snack or vending machines available at EWI. There are no coffee makers or machines. There is no microwave. You are strongly encouraged to bring your own food and drink. HRACO will provide some light snacks (e.g., granola bars and fruit) at each class.
Just 1/10th of a mile west of EWI, you’ll find a small strip of shops on the south side of road that has some great places to get a bit to eat, including Tai’s Asian Bistro (Chinese and Japanese, eat in or take out, can be crowded at meal times), Jersey Mike’s Subs, Piada (Italian street food) and Starbucks.
Just pass them you’ll find Pizza Hut and Whole Foods and more.
On the north side of the road, across the street from Tai’s you’ll find Subway, Pho Asian Noodle House and Grill and Tommy’s Pizza and Subs.
What to Wear
Please dress comfortably. Business casual is fine. Jeans are fine. You need to be comfortable to learn. With that in mind, keep in mind the class is filled with HR professionals in your area. You might end up working with or for someone in the room. I’ll be in jeans and a sweater.
Prepare in Advance of Class
Please keep in mind, this is a review class. You will get the most from class if you read the materials in advance each week.
What to Expect Your First Night
Once you sign in at the lobby desk, it’s a short walk past the restrooms and water fountain to the classroom on your right.
You will be given a 1.5” binder that includes copies of all of the slides presented during the 8 week class. There’s plenty of room on each page to take notes. You should bring pens, pencils, highlighters, post-its – whatever works best for your style of learning.
You’re binder will also include our 8 week agenda and a contact list for all the participants.
The table in the back of the room will have the snacks provided by HRACO.
If you purchased the SHRM Learning System with your enrollment, you will be added to the SHRM Online Learning Center.
Participants are also added to a group set up just for the class on the HRACO website. We will use the group to share files, post questions/answers, start discussions, etc.
