ABOUT THE PROGRAM:

The field of leadership has a problem. Most of us learn to lead through our experiences but we also wish to avail ourselves of knowledge from other sources. Therein lies the problem. On the one hand, the most common sources of knowledge are from popular books and magazines that are accessible but unscientific. On the other hand, there is a vast scientific literature on leadership that contains valuable insights but it is presented in a way that is theoretical, complex, and inaccessible. There has to be a better way! In this talk, I highlight this problem and then discuss useful insights we can gain from the academic literature that can help us lead more effectively, and guide us in designing leadership development programs poised for a greater chance of success.

Learning Objectives:
Leadership is a craft, meaning it is an art and a science. There are many useful scientific insights into how to lead that most leaders can use.
Leadership is a social influence process – so we need to understand what methods of influence are most effective.
Leadership development program are most effective when they follow certain design characteristics (which will be reviewed).


ABOUT THE SPEAKER:

 

Timothy A. Judge is the Joseph A. Alutto Chair in Leadership Effectiveness and the Executive Director of the Leadership Initiative in the Max M. Fisher College of Business at The Ohio State University. Judge received his PhD from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. According to the Journal of Industrial and Organizational Psychology in 2017, Judge was named the Most Influential Researcher in I-O Psychology. In his career, Judge has published more than 160 articles in refereed journals. His publication of more than 80 articles in top-tier journals is the most in the 100-year history of management research (out of 20,059 authors). According to Google Scholar, Judge’s research has been cited more than 105,000 times. A 2017 study identified him as the most cited out of more than 8,000 scholars in applied psychology. In 2019, Judge was awarded the Leadership Quarterly Decennial Article Influence Award and the Thomas A. Mahoney Mentoring Award from the Human Resources Division of the Academy of Management.

Returned Check Fee
The return of a check (electronic or paper) issued to Human Resources Association of Central Ohio (HRACO) may result in a returned check fee of $30 or 10% of the check amount, whichever is greater.  In those instances where a check is returned for non-sufficient funds, we will contact the individuals who registered for the event to secure the registration or event fee and the returned check fee. The registrant will be prevented from attending any future events in the organization until the payment and resulting fee(s) are resolved. HRACO reserves the right to recover any fees through the guidelines of the Ohio Revised Code, if necessary.
