Although efforts have been made in recent years to advance equality for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Questioning, Queer, and other gender and sexual minorities, there are still many instances where LGBTQ+ people find themselves excluded, unwelcome, and uncomfortable in the workplace. According to the Human Rights Campaign, an average of 50% of employees report hiding their sexual orientation at work due to hostility, prejudice, discrimination and mistreatment in the workplace. 

During this interactive session attendees will: 
-become more familiar with LGBTQ+ inclusive terminology
-develop a greater understanding of the lived experiences of LGBTQ+ individuals
-understand the differences in terms such as: sex assigned at birth, sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression
-discuss specific professional scenarios that involve LGBTQ+ workers
-explore and develop strategies to create more welcoming and inclusive workplaces for LGBTQ+ employees, clients and colleagues 

Learning Objectives: 
1 - To become more familiar with LGBTQ+ inclusive terms and language, as well as appropriate pronoun usage
2 - To discuss current LGBTQ+ date and trends in the workplace 
3 - To have an opportunity to explore and discuss specific business and professional scenarios that involve LGBTQ+ workers

Tara Taylor is the Managing Director of ADR Vantage, Inc., a consulting firm that supports clients across the U.S. through conflict management, organizational and leadership development, diversity and inclusion practices, and coaching. She has also worked for the Maryland Commission on Civil Rights, the Offices of both the Maryland and Arizona Attorneys General, and the YMCA. Tara holds a B.A. in Organizational Communication and a M.A. in Management & Public Administration and serves as adjunct faculty at several colleges and universities. She is a dynamic speaker focused on helping audiences engage, get inspired and walk away with ready-to-implement solutions for their professional challenges. In fact, Tara was recently named a “Top 10 Speaker” at the 2019 Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM) Annual Conference.   






HRACO is recognized by SHRM to offer Professional Development Credits (PDCs) for the SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP.

 

 



This program has been submitted recertification credit hours toward PHR, SPHR and GPHR recertification through the HR Certification Institute.

 

 

 

 

Returned Check Fee
The return of a check (electronic or paper) issued to Human Resources Association of Central Ohio (HRACO) may result in a returned check fee of $30 or 10% of the check amount, whichever is greater.  In those instances where a check is returned for non-sufficient funds, we will contact the individuals who registered for the event to secure the registration or event fee and the returned check fee. The registrant will be prevented from attending any future events in the organization until the payment and resulting fee(s) are resolved. HRACO reserves the right to recover any fees through the guidelines of the Ohio Revised Code, if necessary.
